ANIMAL WELFARE SWEDEN // STOP THE CAT-ASTROPHE

ANIMAL WELFARE SWEDEN
SAVING HOMELESS CATS
BY RELEASING THE HOUNDS

In Sweden, dogs have all the rights that cats lack. As a result, there are very few homeless dogs in Sweden, but around 100.000 homeless cats. !!! The fact that as a society we only protect dogs with mandatory ID-marking and registration, not only feels unfair. It shows that a dog is worth more than a cat. We simply care more about them. With that insight, the idea “stop the CAT-astrophe” was born. A political advocacy campaign for the rights of cats with “spokespeople” we actually care about. Dogs.

The Case For A New Law.

The biggest goal is actually also the easiest to measure. A change in the Swedish law. After years of trying, Animal Welfare Sweden did “the impossible”. On March 3, 2022, the Swedish parliament voted to pass a new law giving cats the same status as dogs. All with only 8000 euro in media spend.

The Rally.

To persuade politicians in a real way. One that goes beyond collecting names on paper, we decided to gather dogs and people outside the Swedish parliament to make one final push to give cats the rights they deserve.
